North Korea to come off US terror list

The Bush administration is nearing a decision to remove North Korea from a terrorism blacklist, in an effort to bring the communist country back to disarmament talks.

US diplomats have been briefed to speak to their North Korean counterparts to discuss a tentative move to remove North Korea from the State Department's list of countries that supposedly support terrorism.

The US diplomats have said the delisting will depend on North Korea’s attitude to allowing the verification of its nuclear activity.

North Korea would immediately be put back on the list if it were not to abandon nuclear ambitions.

The original disarmament agreement was badly damaged after North Korea accused the United States of not sticking to an agreement to take it off the list as agreed after North Korea provided a declaration of its atomic program in June.

North Korea had disabled its Yongbyon nuclear plant under the initial phases of the deal but since August has banned IAEA nuclear investigators from all of its facilities.
