MANAGUA, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Nicaraguan government on Friday issued a diplomatic note in which it officially cut ties with the Netherlands for its "repeated interfering, interventionist and neo-colonialist" actions.
In the note, the Nicaraguan government said that the Netherlands "has offended and continues to offend Nicaraguan families with threats and suspensions of works for the common good, such as hospitals for indigenous and Afro-descendant communities."
The note also said that the measure is aimed at defending the honor, dignity, and sovereign spirit that characterizes Nicaragua.
The Dutch Foreign Ministry on Saturday expressed regret over Nicaragua's decision to sever diplomatic relations with the Netherlands.
The Netherlands is discussing with the EU partners how it will respond to this move by Nicaragua, said the Dutch Foreign Ministry.
